End of Year 2018

We have had a good term back and an excellent concert at Chantry Centre & Lister Hall in Dursely, where we performed to a full audience.  Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the concert and it was the final concert for Musical Director David Smith, who will be taking a break from conducting the band next year.  Everyone would like to thank David for his hard work over the past 2 and a half years and we wish him the best in his future endeavours and hopefully one day we’ll see him return to the band.  The band is looking forward to new adventures under the direction of Phil Storer in 2019.

We recently had our band social, where chairman Jenny was pleased to present our very first lifetime award to our principal alto saxophone Gail Sherwood.  Gail has not missed a rehearsal since the band started in 2016, she has performed at all of our concerts and attended all socials.  Gail has also gone above and beyond for the band by unofficially taking on the librarian role to help out, which then became official in 2017.  She has also purchased quite a bit of new music for the band which we are grateful for.  Gail truly represents the spirit of SAWO.
